With clay projects, students get their hands and their minds working together in new ways. Not only are they getting to form 3-dimensional shapes such as bowls, figurines and abstract sculptures out of a flexible material, but they are learning about process and the scientific characteristics of clay. Each class will be able to use their hands to manipulate the clay and utilize the wooden clay tools for precise adjustments to the features of the design of their project. I have planned a range of projects based on the grade level and the NC Visual Art Standards to be addressed. After working through the stages of creation of their artworks, students will have the opportunity to finalize their creation using the paint and brushes, then paint markers and pens for their final details.
