This project is an important one for my classroom and students! Learning how to read is a major aspect of the Kindergarten curriculum. I want all of my students to be able to select their own books from a well stocked classroom library. By getting these resources, it will help get more books into the hands of my students. I'm asking for quite a few sets of leveled readers so that I can target all of my students' individual needs and get them books to read, both in class, and through setting up a take home library for my students. My students always love to be able to show their parents how much they can read, and having books to "check out" will allow them this chance! Even at an early age, my students will understand that reading is an opportunity to open their minds to many fantastic and real life adventures that can take them on their journey towards a college or a career. I want to give them every opportunity I can to help them acquire the skills needed to become lifelong readers and have fun doing so! I believe that every Kindergarten classroom should have a physical space for students to relax and read. Because I currently do not have a large area rug, my students are limited to the places where they can sit and read beyond their desks. At this stage in their development, five year old children love exploring their environment and being on the floor during structured and recreational activities. The books, large area rugs, as well as the book carts will setup a comfortable area where my students feel as if they are in a library as they explore different genres and levels of text.
