The use of Math centers and journals is almost a daily activity in my classroom, especially in math. Using their journals for guided practice and to create foldable for strategies, students are responsible for their learning. The foldable keep their notes organized and provides colorful way to learn and retain information. Journals also provide an easy way to show and share their work. What becomes a problem is the fact that I don't have enough colored paper to provide for the students. Our budget doesn't allow us to buy colored paper. When teacher doesn't provide color paper, students know that they must use their markers to make the journals colorful, or the last choice, pencil and paper. Our budget is very limited so game boards and store bought games or manipulative are hard to get, so I create many of the math games needed for students to practice and learn. The problem is not having enough materials to create them. By having these supplies students will be able to be successful and focus on increasing their learning!
