The central feature of my classroom is the expanding library. My students have a great place to sit down and read books, however, we are in need of more literacy materials in our class. I serve 22 students in a low-income neighborhood school. The majority of students are considered to be living at or below the poverty line, and many children and their families have faced enormous personal struggles. Despite this, my students come to school eager and enthusiastic about learning. Their favorite part of the day is center time, when students work independently and in cooperative groups to apply what they have learned. My students also enjoy spending time in our class library and are quickly learning to love reading as much as I do.
