Our English language learners consist of students in grades K-5, with country origins from Honduras, Mexico, Vietnam, Somalia, and Cuba-only to name a few! We are a small elementary school with high poverty. We share a classroom with another teacher, and have a small space to work with. Our students need a special, welcoming environment where they can feel safe and true to their identity. We need maps, a globe, and place mats with maps of the United States and the world. They get excited talking about their families and sharing with other students where they are from. We're always looking for ways to stimulate written and oral English language production. Four of our students are newcomers, meaning they speak no English at all.
