My school is in south Texas with a high percentage of students living in poverty. Many of these children do not have books of their own at home, so they depend on the school to supply their academic as well as pleasure reading materials. Even though many of the children are living in poverty, they have a strong will to be successful in school. They don't say, "If I go to college", but rather, "When I go to college". I like to think that by providing the students with quality books to read, I am helping to lay the foundation that their future educational successes rest upon.
