I love teaching. I was thirty-five years old before I ever stepped foot on a college campus. It was a dream and after a lot of hard work that dream came true. For seven years, I worked at Theodore High School in Mobile County. Unfortunately, in 2012 I was diagnosed with stage IV Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. The treatment was grueling, but between it and the Lord, my life was spared. All I wanted was to be back in the classroom. It took four years, but in 2016 I felt that I was well enough to begin teaching again. I applied and was hired immediately at Alma Bryant High School. It has been an absolute joy to be back in the classroom. I get up each day realizing just how blessed I am to be alive and to be doing a job that I absolutely love. Some days are challenging, but every single person endures challenging days-it's a sign of living a normal life. Who knew normal could be so much fun?
