Students in the Homebound Department are placed due to long term illnesses (longer than 4 weeks) that may resolve in time and have the student back in the campus by the end of the semester. We also have students in Homebound for years, due to long-term illnesses that impede them from being in the classroom due to suppressed or compromised immune systems. My students have class in their home or hospital room. They all attend Title I schools and qualify for free or reduced lunch. Most of them are first-generation American with monolingual Spanish speaking parents. They don't have access to books or other resources on their home campus. The materials that the Homebound department has is very limited. The Spanish/Bilingual options for books and materials is even more sparse. This is a challenge they simply shouldn't have to face. I try my best to make or translate my own materials, but I feel they should have a book and/or materials in their language.
