I am requesting a portable PA/Karaoke system to increase the engagement of my students and their desire to participate in class. As a fourth grade teacher I am responsible for communicating audibly and encouraging effective participation from ALL students in my classroom.
Many students are afraid of sharing their thoughts because they feel their voice is too quiet, or they fear of having to stand in front of everyone to be heard. Using this device, the students will be able to communicate to the entire class using a soft voice, and many cases even a whisper. This will help those who are uncomfortable speaking to the class to improve without being told "you're too quiet" or "I can't hear you"
Another benefit to this project would be allowing me to communicate with a class full of students using a conversational voice rather than a "presenting" or "teaching" voice. As a taller person, my size can sometimes be intimidating, especially to students who tend to be more quiet and reserved. Through the use of this microphone/speaker system, I will be able to maintain an inviting and conversational tone, while still allowing all students in class to hear what is being taught.
