Even though I have been teaching for awhile, the education system and my students are always changing. Therefore I am always looking for new ways to teach and new items for my students to learn with. It's been a slow process with limited funding. My students are inner city children with Autism. They are on various academic levels and deserve more than what the state funding provides. Since we are an Autistic support classroom that means various reading and math levels as well as behaviors. My students need a safe space to move around, space to lay down as well as space to be comfortable while working or calming down. They have limited availability to books, supplies and sometimes clean clothes and food. I am attempting to create a space that gives the comfort of home, books and supplies on various academic levels, offers safe space for behavior breakdowns as well as a place to calm down.
