I work in a school where 97 percent of the students qualify as "at-risk." I teach a wide range of students. My students range from English Language Learners, students who qualify for special education program, and those who are reading at 7th grade level. 80% of my students are reading 3 years below grade level. Two of my 6th grade students are reading on a pre-K level. The common deficiency that all of my students have is a lack of academic vocabulary.
