I am a new teacher who sees the value in dramatic play for students. I would like to create opportunities for kindergarten students to develop oral language and interact with peers using several multicultural puppets aiding in social skills. The "ABC puppets" will also help me in teaching letters and sounds in creative and fun ways. After introducing letters and sounds children will be encouraged to practice these skills during center time using the puppets. The "market food" will allow me unique ways to incorporate social studies, science and math curriculum. I have a theatre to use the puppets that students can write and erase on, so the theatre has many uses for my classroom. It can be used for community and life skills education; anything a child's mind can create! I use a lot of music in my classroom so the puppet theatre can be used to practice singing as the puppets articulate the lyrics. Music has the power of positive energy in the classroom. I am excited to create this type of environment for my students. Where there is positivity there is growth and learning! Not all children develop at the same rate. I have an interest in helping special needs children who need more practice to grasp the curriculum. Playful learning helps children practice skills in a non-competitive environment; thus learning is more apt to take place.
