Some of my first grade students have never been in a classroom before due to COVID-19. Our expectations of young learners and how their bodies act in a traditional classroom setting has to change to accommodate these young learners' needs. More and more students need to keep their bodies moving to in order to keep their brains engaged. We believe that students do not all learn the same and sitting still for long periods of time can be draining. Many of my students learn better when they are moving. According to research, 70% of students prefer a dynamic seating option while learning. Active seating options help increase blood flow, positively impacting a student's ability to focus. Active seating also improves muscle ability and provides options to meet the sensory needs of students. By donating to my Active Seating for Academic Success Project, you will help provide my young learners for years to come with Active Seating options to meet their sensory needs, ultimately improving their focus and achievement in the classroom.
