Beanbags, wobbly stools, comfy cushions... all of these will be options for my students to use responsibly during work time. The students will also each have a traditional desk and chair and I will maintain a whole group meeting area for the class to join me on the carpet. Choices within the classroom give students a sense of independence and encourage their best effort! With our reading and writing workshop, students spend time working independently. Sometimes being right next to a neighbor can cause distraction. I want to give my students comfortable options around the classroom to utilize during their independent time.
