My classroom is a place, where for many, is their first exposure to letters, sounds, sight words, numbers, and counting, all of which are skills my students need to master by the end of Kindergarten. The materials I am requesting to be funded would make a HUGE impact in my classroom, as I have students with a variety of learning styles, English Language Learners, and most of my students come from low-socioeconomic homes. In my classroom I encourage and value hands-on learning as I feel that is one of the best ways to engage students and differentiate learning. On a daily basis my students participate in activities where we utilize materials such as playdough, markers and whiteboards, sight word games, letter and number mats, and counting games. I like to switch up the activities monthly to allow my students to have variety in their learning, and also because we are continually learning new skills. Teaching in a Kindergarten classroom is a wonderful and magical place, as so much learning and language is happening constantly. I am fortunate to be in a position where I have the opportunity to be surrounded by such joyful and open-minded souls, and my gift to them is not only an education, but to provide a classroom that is fun, loving, and conducive to lifelong learning.
