I teach a transitional kindergarten class in California. My students have birthdays in September, October, and November; and will soon be 5 years old. These students, due to their late birthdays, aren't quite ready for the academic rigor that Kindergarten now requires. My class is the first of a two year kindergarten program. The first year is a developmental kindergarten where we learn through movement and purposeful play and are introduced to the kindergarten standards. The second year, is a traditional kindergarten where the students will learn the kindergarten standards to mastery.
