I have a group of 22 energetic kindergarten students. Each of these students learn in a different way and at a different pace. These students benefit from hands on instruction as well as whole group instruction. My school is located in an urban district and is very diverse. The district I teach in is considered a magnet school district. The magnet system was implemented to ensure racial balance in each one of its schools, allowing for diversity. Additionally, the district provides “parental choice,” meaning parents and students can choose which magnet theme (e.g. science, the arts, technology) they are most interested in and apply for enrollment in the school that specializes in that theme.
