I teach 10th grade English at a very rural high school that has around 350 students. My school has an abundance of enthusiastic and driven students who often are not born with the privileges of more affluent systems. The students are curious, hard working, and have a love of life like all kids at this age. They are typically in class sizes of at least twenty-five or more, which makes individual instruction a challenge. Like most teachers who have limited breathing room, I try to engage the students minds and imagination, which has no limits. We work with the supplies that we have, and most of the time, we can get by. However, imagination can only take us so far. Because of this, I try to incorporate innovative strategies and technology whenever I can. That integration keeps the kids engaged, keeps my lessons fresh, and fosters a love of discovery in everyone in the classroom.
