Voice recorders can be used in so many ways within the classroom. My students can use them along with their Chromebook to support reading fluency and comprehension. How often have you heard yourself read aloud? Now think, how often have students have heard themselves read aloud? Most kids know what a good reader should sound like. After all they listen to their teachers, parents, grandparents, siblings, and classmates read aloud to them in an enthusiastic voice on a daily basis. But most kids have no idea what they sound like. Not in my classroom. I plan to utilize the voice recorder every day with students. They will record themselves reading aloud, listening to it, and reflecting upon their reading. I will provide my students leveled passages; they will get one passage a week and record themselves every day. This will allow them to see the improvements they are making. With each reading and recording, their fluency rate increases, their expressions improve, and ultimately their comprehension improves.
