All of the students in my class have a variety of disabilities ranging from Autism, Learning Disabilities, and Other Health Impairments. Our class focuses on teaching functional skills, social skills, life skills and basic academic skills. We also put a huge focus on reading intervention. My students love to read and enjoy making gains in their reading progress. The students love reading aloud in reading groups and to show of their reading skills during fluency checks. Our school is very large and serves both elementary and middle school students. It is also in a very low income community and many/most of my students are living in poverty. The administration and staff put on several family nights and after school events to help promote more parental involvement. Our school puts a huge focus on family and community and makes every attempt to to put students and families first.
