These alternative seats will allow me to meet my students differentiating needs. Every student is different and every student learns differently. I learn every year a new way that motivates a student to learn. Many times it comes down to where and how they are learning. If my students have comfy seats away from their desks, it gets them to engage in a lesson, and be excited and comfortable while learning! It also helps my students with special needs to be able to move while they sit to better allow them to focus on the lesson. I absolutely love seeing the students race to a comfy seat to dive into their books or get started writing a new story! The students love to move around the room and sit in these alternative seats, they are focused on their own work instead of being distracted by other students around them at their basic desks. I have bought a lot of alternative seating for my classroom with my own money, like rocking chairs, bean bags, stools, etc. Unfortunately, I often buy this type of seating at rummage sales and so it does not last very long at all. I just can not afford to keep buying this seating for my class.
