My state has the Read to Succeed initiative. The goal is for each student to read on grade level by the end of third grade. However, this is not just a third grade task. This goal is held by every K-2 teacher in the state. These leveled books will be used during small guided reading groups to help students learn reading strategies, spelling patterns, and gain confidence in their ability to read in front of others. My hope is that by having more fun books to read, students will realize that reading is not just about learning; it can be about following a story and making connections.
