During our reading hour, I will teach a mini lesson and then the students will have the opportunity to read their own book(s) and put their skills in motion. Being able to pick a comfortable and/or relaxing spot to read will help their imaginations run wild! Many students come from backgrounds where they may not have a safe and comfortable place to read. Our classroom will be just the place to get lost in your favorite book, or write to a pen pal, or to think of what motivates a character to do the things they are doing in the story.
