Flexible seating is one which traditional seating is replaced with seating that provides students with a more comfortable environment that helps students be their best learning selves! The reasoning behind this project, and flexible seating in general, is that it helps reduce the duration of sedentary periods of time for students. Flexible seating creates an environment where students are engaged, behavior issues are minimal, learning is happening and academic scores are improving! Imagine all of this happening while fostering in students the character traits such as respect, responsibility, and teamwork. My students are noticeably more engaged when they get to pick a spot in the room to work. This leads to a decrease in unwanted behaviors in the classroom and a reason for me to want to provide them with more flexible seating choices. The products I have selected are forms of seating that don’t require students to sit on the carpet or in a desk chair. Some of the seating will be used with low to the ground tables, others will be used at circular tables, and others will be utilized with lap desks. These seating options will give students more choice than traditional desks and chairs and help them make more effective learning choices. The balance ball, wobble chairs, and cushions will help students get the wiggles out. The comfy floor seats and saucer chair will be additional comfortable seating options for students. Finally, the lap desks will be perfect to allow students to be productive if choosing to work not a desk or table.
