These books will allow my students to learn about an important moment in our history through historical fiction. Many of my students have expressed high interest in learning about the Holocaust. However, my students are not the biggest fans of reading nonfiction, therefore, "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak will allow my students to learn about one of their favorite topics through fiction. We will then compare Zusak's work to shorter nonfiction articles that allow my students to learn about text structures. With these books,​ my students will learn how the horror of the Holocaust and book burning is not something that can be erased from history. By reading "The Book Thief", I hope that my students can learn the importance of fighting for what matters to you and how important history really is.
