Ms. Dewees and Mrs. Speer's classroom is a place where every student should feel confident. Many of our students have disabilities that cause a deficit in their understanding of math. This can be discouraging to anyone, especially middle school students. With calculators, this gap can be completely closed, or minimized. Proper calculator use can promote higher order thinking and conceptual understanding necessary for problem solving. Students who always struggle with and hate math can experience success with the proper supports, like calculator access. Having access to a personal calculator will free our students from tedious calculations, so they can focus on developing their conceptual understanding of math content.
