Children with autism require repetition and motivation when they are learning. My students need to be taught all concepts multiple times and in various ways in order for them to be successful. My students need to hear sounds, touch materials, see images and engage with the content. Most importantly, these students need to practice learned skills daily, so they can maintain them. My goal is to help my students become independent individuals who can be self-sufficient in the future. To help my learners, I need sensory materials to both engage and excite my students! I need items to help my students remain calm and balanced; and manipulatives that will allow my students access to the curriculum in many different ways. I have high expectations for my students with autism that I know they can meet with the appropriate materials, instruction, collaboration and support!
