The idea of hands-on learning aids students in making those real-world connections from the classroom. This is essential in our rural community that does not always have the science and cultural experiences other places have. With this in mind, students can use virtual reality and hands-on materials to better understand the place they are studying in social studies, the science behind how things work or find a vision of something that can happen in the real world. For example, students will virtually travel to a place with the ipad as a guide to each of these places. This will help them to not just see it on a map, but to grasp the geography and culture of a civilization. Students will also be given an opportunity to use the hands-on material to duplicate these cultural landmarks, but also build things to help them make connections to the real world and in our community. Also, of these materials will be used in as a building block for STEM education for all students in the school. They will be able to duplicate the cultural landmarks, geometric shapes, and science models they are learning about in the classroom and bring these thoughts to a STEM lab/makerspace area in the school.
