My 60 Talented and Gifted (TAG) students from grades 2-5 disprove just about every myth concerning "giftedness". While many do very well in school, some don't read on grade level & others happen to be some of our most at-risk behavior concerns in the classroom. My students have learning differences and are part of the free and reduced lunch program. These kids span the gamut - athletes, bookworms, builders, and artists. But one thing does unite them, and that is their intense desire to create. Unfortunately for many of them, they do not see school as a place that can channel their creativity. Our school is still a baby, in its fourth year, and it is our first year with a TAG program. Without a library or media center, we lack many resources. At times I know that my colleagues feel that they aren't able to challenge the kids with the highest abilities due to a lack of time, resources, and a large class size.
