These materials and furniture were handpicked by the students and myself. First and foremost, I noticed how flexible seating allowed my students to take charge of their learning and make better choices independently. During group work and independent work, students like the freedom to sit where they are most comfortable at. Our classroom floor is made from cold white tile and when given the opportunity, my students chose to sit under tables, on the floor, or at different desks with a clipboard. By providing my students with comfortable options, I know they will become more motivated to learn and grow academically. I've noticed the positive change in their demeanor when they are given a choice in their seating. Students are more engaged and get more work completed than when they are sitting at the same desk for hours. I as a teacher, can't even sit in the same spot for hours when lesson planning. When my students feel like the classroom they learn in has a positive atmosphere and is aesthetically pleasing, they become less disruptive and more motivated to do good! Having a welcoming classroom with flexible seating and great incentives will aid my students in making effective learning choices. The comfy floor seats and the beanbag chair will allow comfortable floor seating options and they will help those students who feel the need to move around. I want my students to LOVE reading, therefore, the reading bookshelf is key in the classroom. Having a choice and being heard is what matters the most to my 5th graders. Students spend hours and hours at school, my only wish is that when they're here they feel comfortable and at home.
