This is the first year that the Dual Immersion program is implemented in Westlake Jr. High, my new school. I have been teaching in elementary schools for the last 4 years and now I am going back to Secondary school. This program is an innovative educative project for students to develop high levels of language proficiency and literacy in both program languages, to demonstrate high levels of academic achievement, and to develop an appreciation for and an understanding of diverse cultures. My students have been in the program since 1st grade and now they are starting it at the Junior High level. They are pioneers! Most of my students live near or under the poverty line and, due to their financial circumstances and the lack of adequate resources both at home and school, many of them struggle to acquire adequate language skills. It is time to help them better!
