During the first few months of the pandemic, my school became a tale of two cities. One city consisted of students whose parents could work from home or at least keep their jobs, who had few responsibilities outside of their school work, and who could engage in opportunities to enrich their learning. The other city consisted of students whose parents lost their jobs, who suddenly became the primary bread winners, or who struggled to participate in virtual learning because of responsibilities such as providing child care to siblings. There are many things out of my control as a teacher. But one thing I can do is make sure that each one of my student has a computer so that they can participate in virtual learning. While my school district works hard to keep up with student needs, it is usually the most vulnerable students that get left behind. Thank you for helping me make sure that none of my students get left behind!
