The music program I have been trying to turn around has been a crucial part of my life. I am grateful for the resources that my school district offers but our classes lack brass accessories to maintain our instruments in great playing condition. Keeping our instruments in the greatest conditions allow every student to tell their own story without having to worry about the instrument letting them down. The power of music definitely has an impact on our students. The mission of our band is to achieve a standard of excellence in music education and music performance; facilitate the musical enrichment of the student membership, promote the place and value of music in our school and the primary role music plays in the cultural, academic, and social lives of young adults; promote fellowship and respect among our members; and provide our students with opportunities for personal growth, responsibility and leadership. We must teach our students to TRUST the process of becoming great. The process of becoming great is definitely a tedious one. It is extremely tedious in the eyes of our middle school students. Plenty of people suit for settling for less and plenty want to take the easy way. Not only do I teach the notes, but I want my students to learn what it is like to be part of something bigger than themselves. The journey and experience is one that stays with you for a very long time. I want my students to take their stories they've expressed musically with them and succeed in life. Trusting the process will make you succeed.
