Each year, I choose one to two Shakespeare plays to integrate into our units of study in our K/1 classroom. Doing so provides my students many opportunities to learn about the past, as well as the present, by getting them onto their feet and problem solving the Baird's words with guidance and through making personal connections. My goal is to increase students' love of reading and learning through teaching them the art of Shakespeare. My students will utilize the requested literature and costumes throughout the school year and for many years to come. Literature will be used to compare and contrast Shakepearean stories to other children's literature. Costumes will be used to act out the variety of stories we are studying. Through movement and dialogue, children will be able to make connections to their own lives and problem solve through play.
