My students are a beautiful mixture of talents and capabilities. One of the ways I foster their success is to color code their subjects (red is math, green is science, blue is social studies, and purple is language arts). The color coding provides them a tool for staying organized. Organization is key to success. Fifth grade is a time for transition. The kids are preparing for middle school. Expectations are high. Standards are high. Anxiety is high. Helping the kids stay organized while learning a variety of subjects everyday enables them to grasp the information easier, which offers them the opportunity to lower their anxiety and reach their academic goals. Color-coded organization is key!
