Flexible seating will benefit my students mental and physical health. !st graders are active learners who have loads of energy. With balance balls and wiggle chairs my most wiggly students will have an output for all of their energy. I will also use the balance balls as a form of classroom management. In our classroom we use team points. The table with the most team points at the end of the week will get the balance balls for the next week. This way every student has multiple opportunities to use the balls throughout the school year. The wobble chairs will be used for our small group tables. Students visit our U-Shaped table often. Wobble chairs will keep them actively engaged and motivate them to participate in small group meetings. Sit spots will help my students learn best on the carpet. Our carpet is a large, grey carpet with no designated spots. Sit spots will reduce disagreements on the carpet over personal space and give students a visual of where available spots are.
