First grade children are naturally active, as they should be! I have slowly been integrating flexible seating options in my classroom and I have seen a huge difference in students' engagement in lessons. When students are given opportunities to be active during their learning, they perform better. With flexible seating options in the classroom, students are given a variety of options for seating while participating in their learning communities. When I think about what learning looks like in a first grade classroom, I envision students engaged in discussions about their learning, working in cooperative learning groups, and scattered around the room as they investigate deeper into the lessons. Flexible seating will allow my students to experience this type of learning first hand. The areas set up around the classroom will be inviting with bright colors and fun seating options and students will be engaged as they interact with one another and in the lessons.
