My students love to play games and get hands-on experience with learning. It is my goal to integrate makerspace/STEAM into my library program as well as when I see the students. This year the Instructional Support Staff (ITS) member and I have started a coding club for students. These materials will allow us to take coding from being computer/cloud based to hands on and more interactive. Students will be creating mazes/obstacle courses and guiding Sphero through using coding; at the same time, students will be using the LittleBits Code kit to create interactive games, stories, and music. Not only will these materials allow students to create and problem solve with coding, but will reinforce curricular subjects such as science and mathematics. After I learn through experiences with my coding club, I will be working with classroom teachers to use the materials to reinforce learning as well as adding the materials into centers/learning stations during library classes.
