By using instruments students will be able to explore and integrate mathematical and science concepts during the music creation process. Along with music acting as a stand alone subject it is unique in that it utilizes the mathematical topics of fractions and numeracy behind frequencies, intervals and harmonics. Music also teaches important life skills which students need to successfully achieve their goals. Team work, focus, responsibility and perseverance skills are strengthened when learning to play an instrument. My students need two "Jumbie Jam Table Top Steel Drum Kits", in which they can feel successful with and have clear, first-hand knowledge with the mathematics and science behind music. Steel pans are unique in that pitches are laid in front of the students and hand/eye coordination does not impede the student from being able to experiment with the science and mathematical concepts behind music.
