In 8th grade, students are transitioning from childhood to adolescence. They require unique attention and respect as emerging young adults. It is my hope that I can continue to inspire kindness, change, and compassion in the hearts and minds of my students, through immersing them in the literature that can help us honor those who endured unimaginable suffering. These novels can change the lives of students by providing a perspective on life that allows them to be grateful, and encourages them to be tolerant. In today's society, there's nothing more crucial than spreading compassion and tolerance. And, with exposure to literature that illustrates what the opposite can do to an entire world, I am confident this unit of study can inspire REAL change.
