Since my students are often affected by physical disabilities, they are not able always able to access traditional tables and chairs. Furthermore, the school playground is difficult to navigate and many times some of my students are left in a wheelchair to watch other children play. It is also essential that my students get a break from their wheelchairs and a chance to safely stretch and independently move. Currently in our room we already have two peapods but they are sadly deflating and are re-inflated everyday as they are essential to our classroom. Peapods give my students a safe place for rest and positioning and the extra sensory input that they sometimes miss by not being able to access many everyday childhood experiences. It is always my goal to try to give my students every chance so even a little thing like a cozy place to rest, stretch and practice how to move their bodies can make a big difference to them!
