Rafting down the Reading River, has become one of our favorite activities in rm 109. The students enjoy sitting in "book boats" and exploring books in their own book bags. Our school is setting new literary dispositions this year with a central focus on Reading Engagement. An engaged reader is one who not only looks at books but can see the potential in each story. An engaged reader uses their choice of books to make connections to their lives, for entertainment and enjoyment, to learn something new, peer partner conversations, grow their vocabulary with meaningful words, to practice old and new skills, and this list could go on forever! By fulfilling our Book Project, you will be providing more choice in the daily routine of independent reading. You will be giving my students a chance to explore new titles and feel that excitement around book discoveries all while becoming better readers.
