Steady beat is an important fundamental of music which needs to be developed early on so that students can be successful in a variety of musical contexts. As an elementary school general music teacher, I am always looking for fun ways to reinforce these skills so that all students are motivated and successful. Bucket drumming is a great way to help students develop their sense of beat while giving them a fun challenge to learn patterns, learn about different styles of music, and work as a team. By placing the buckets upside-down, students have a way to practice their steady beat by drumming on them using different patterns using rhythm sticks. The poly spots are placed under the drum to reduce noise.
