If kids can't sit still for 8 hours straight, then maybe we shouldn't expect them to! Flexible seating makes students more actively engaged in the classroom and gives them an active outlet without disrupting their learning. In my first year in a first grade classroom I have seen one of the biggest obstacles faced is engagement. Students at this age need to move it! move it! move it! Flexible seating especially benefits students with ADHD and autism, along with other special needs. It helps students' attention span, helps them become independent learners and is LOVED by both the student and the teacher. What is better than having the student motivated to come to school? Help my classroom get kick started with a couple different options for flexible seating.
