Most of my students come from the poorer neighborhoods in my town. Many students live in an environment where education is not valued and therefore they have a hard time appreciating education. The poorer neighborhoods are filled with gangs, drugs, and other illegal activities that my students are exposed to, often by family members. My school is one of the oldest in the city and is often referred to by the students as "The Ghetto School." Our district does a good job of maintaining our buildings, but it is still old.
