The students I serve at James Madison Middle School are a diverse group, each with unique backgrounds and experiences. Many face challenges, but they show incredible resilience, determination, and eagerness to grow. Through sports, particularly soccer, softball and basketball, I work with them to build essential social-emotional skills such as self-awareness, emotional regulation, and interpersonal relationships.
By participating in team sports, small groups and clubs they learn the value of teamwork, collaboration, and communication, which are key to building leadership skills and a positive mindset. These students are learning to support one another, embrace challenges, and build confidence both on and off the field. It’s a privilege to help guide them as they develop the skills needed for academic and personal success, while fostering an environment where mental health is valued and supported.
