The students in my class are eager to learn and come from a diverse population. My school is made up of low income students. These students come to school everyday without a lot of materials from home and school. Teachers have to purchase most of the supplies and materials. They love new opportunities to learn. My students love to read. Everyday, they are eager to get into his/her guided reading groups and enter the wonderful world of reading. They enjoy all kinds of books, fiction, non fiction, poetry, etc.. They are eager to take these books home to read to his/her family. The boys in my class and school love reading about animals. I hear my students retelling facts on the playground about animals they have read about. They are thirsty for learning more in reading. Reading time is a time where the students and I get to bond. I get to explore their background (which is limited). We get to step into a fantasy world. Reading offers these students a chance to escape his/her everyday life.
