My students come from diverse ethnic backgrounds but share a commonality of low SES students – the absence of an adequate vocabulary caused by the limited access to high interest books and lack of an intrinsic passion to read. . Many have never finished a complete novel apart from assigned school reading material. The majorities of my students seldom visit the local public library and rarely read independently. Most have parents that do not speak English and siblings that will not continue down the same path. It is the goal of my program to Kindle the passion for reading
