My students come from a high need community where food and shelter are priorities at home, not books. I work hard to provide students access to literature. My students are eager to learn, but many of the texts we have are not engaging enough, current enough, nor rigorous enough to prepare my students for ideas needed in high-school or college. We need access to more exciting and current literature that allows us to integrate science standards while meeting reading standards.
