My students live on the outskirts of the city of New Orleans. Many of their families are still displaced from their homes due to Hurricane Katrina. I also have many non english speaking students. 90% of the children in my classroom are on the free lunch program. Our school is about 40 years old and is in poor condition. Our classroom has recently been used for storage and does not have many of the supplies, furniture and resources that I had at my previous school.
